Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – NASCAR driver Robby Gordon claims he was used and abused by the people who make Extenze — claiming he put their logo on a car he owned … but instead of paying him, they gave him the shaft, according to TMZ.

Gordon claims the company behind the sex pills agreed to fork over a ton of cash if Robby — who owns a race car team — would splash the logo on a car operated by his driver Kevin Conway at NASCAR events in October and November.

But when Kevin was in danger of falling out of the prestigious top 35 ranked cars — Robby asked the Extenze people if he could personally drive the Extenze car instead.

In his lawsuit, filed Friday in L.A. County Superior Court, Gordon claims the Extenze people initially agreed to the deal … so he made the switch.

It was only after the races, Gordon claims, that Extenze refused to pay him citing breach of contract because he got in the driver’s seat instead of Kevin.

Now, Gordon wants Extenze to pay him at least $690,000 to, ahem, straighten things out.

Miami Beach, FL, United States (CNS) – South Beach is once again ground zero for art lovers, collectors and those who enjoy the parties that surround them. The ninth annual Art Basel Miami Beach kicked off on Wednesday to VIPs and opened to the public on Thursday.

The annual art party which showcases works from over 250 galleries around the world is a way for deals and discoveries to be made. The art of wheeling and dealing amidst the lights, murmuring and at times surreal parties is not for the faint at heart and better handled by those who have traversed the world of Brooks Brothers Suits, boat shoes, hipster jeans, and avant-garde hair and makeup before.

Yes, Art Basel has begun.

Wednesday’s balmy South Florida weather seemed to have been lost on many of the visitors who made the trek across the Atlantic from Europe or who hopped on a two and a half hour flight from New York. However those use to taking redeyes from either end of the this nation’s Golden State or are use to wearing flip flips annually in Miami-Dade county seemed to fit the most on the sand and shores of this billion dollar explosion on the Miami social calendar and economic register.

The Miami Beach Convention Center which is the epicenter of the three daylong event looked like it was still hosting the car show which was in town a few weeks ago. The normally empty parking lot was overflowing with Bentleys, BMWs, Rolls Royce, Porsche, Aston Martins, Maseratis, Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover and all other makes and models of high end luxury asphalt riding people movers.

However, inside the Convention Center works of art featured at the trade show easily cost more than the cars outside the facility’s walls. The art hung or stood waiting to be gazed upon, fawned over, analyzed, scrutinized and ultimately bought.

However, if that many zeros is out of your price range or you revel in being the first of your friends to scoop up some young, new, hot thing…umm artist work, that is. Then the NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance) fair further north on the beach held at the Deauville Beach Resort is probably more your speed. It is targeted for younger dealers showing plenty of work priced under $10,000.

Some items were bought however total day sales figures still remain hush-hush as it was just a select crowd able to tour the spaces. But what many people who woke up in Miami and those who are landing in the Magic City today know, Wednesday night was the kickoff party night.

Despite the private showings on Wednesday many workers and artists simply wrote the day off as time to set up their space, get settled and meet up with friends from across the globe at parties and fancy dinners all over the beach…while networking of course. After all the name of the game is to see and be seen while promoting the work.

Aside, from the celebs and artists who sparkled with their usual glitterati. Flashing lights and pulsing sounds could be seen, felt and commanded your attention.

Most of the major hotels on Collins Ave., had performances by bands. However, the one on most people’s lips was Metric’s performance at Collins Park on the northeastern end of South Beach.

Attendees to the FREE beach concert (on the actual sand not barrier island of Miami Beach) were first greeted by elaborate aerial structures of assembled neon lighted cords soaring into the sky. The displays at the 2010 Oceanfront Nights program organized by Creative Time were designed by Phu Hoang Office and Rachely Rotem Studio. The cords which decorate the pavilion are reflective and phosphorescent rope which gives the visitor an interactive open-air environment art space that they can be literally inside of.

Metric, the Toronto-based electro new wave group’s concert was highly fitting for the visual spectacle that attendees passed through before meeting the stage and was an excellent way for those who didn’t know about the exhibit to tell others.

Upon further investigation I learned that the Oceanfront Nights program features four cities that many in the art world credit with being at the forefront of artistic experimentation and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The nightly extravaganza will feature four different cities: Detroit, Mexico City, Berlin, and Glasgow.

Each night will spotlight one city with film, music, video and performance all while being enveloped on Miami Beach’s sand and feet away from its surf.

Miami’s uniqueness and proximity to Latin America makes it an ideal choice to have this yearly Mecca for art lovers. Its own distinct American pulse and proximity to the Latin culture give it the credence to have works of Picasso, Twombly, Murakami next to emerging artists from around the globe.

But Basel’s days of looking at art, talking about art, haggling over prices for art, going to art sponsored parties…aren’t just for the superficial or the moneyed. Art really is for everyone.

There is something unmistakable about Art Basel, whether you have money or you don’t, whether you’re in a show or not, people who talk about Art Basel always agree on one thing…they enjoy it.

Last night there was an almost auditory buzz of excitement in the air and people had the look of anticipation fully realized. December in Miami was here, Art Basel is here, let’s party and go look at some art.

Indianapolis, IN, United States (AHN) – Lotus will build an engine for IndyCar’s next-generation car, giving the series a third automobile manufacturer in 2012.

It will be the first time Lotus produces an engine for IndyCar, giving the IZOD IndyCar Series manufacturer representation from the U.S. (Chevrolet), Europe (Lotus) and Asia (Honda) in 2012.

“Lotus is unique in the automotive world, no other car company has been more successful in such a wide variety of motorsports discipline, whether it is Le Mans, World Rally, Sportscars, F1 of course and IndyCar,” said Dany Bahar, CEO of Group Lotus.

“This year, we teamed up with KV Racing for IndyCar and we will significantly increase our participation next year. However in 2012 IndyCar competitors will have the exciting opportunity to choose an IndyCar with a Lotus engine and body kit, immediately become part of a legacy that is Lotus: one of the most innovative and successful sports and racing car brands in the world.”

Based in Norfolk, England, Lotus has competed in motorsports since Colin Chapman founded the company in 1952. Jim Clark drove a Lotus chassis to victory in the 1965 Indianapolis 500, and Lotus sponsored the KV Racing Technology car driven by rookie Takuma Sato in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series.

Lotus will release its engine specifications at a later date.

“Lotus is a renowned name in racing, with a long association with some of the greatest names of motorsports,” said Randy Bernard, CEO of INDYCAR.

“We’re honored Lotus has chosen to serve as an engine manufacturer for the first time with us. We are excited about the future of Indy car racing with the addition of Chevrolet and Lotus as well as the continued involvement of our longtime engine supplier Honda.”

The IZOD IndyCar Series announced in June that that its next generation of engines would be a maximum of six cylinders. The engines will be turbo-charged, producing between 550 and 700 horsepower and will run on E85.

Concord, NC, United States (AHN) – Due to the economy and lack of sponsorship the future of Richard Petty Motorsports was uncertain, but after a restructuring the team will reportedly downsize from four to two fulltime NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entries in 2011.

Driver AJ Allmendinger is the only holdover from 2010 and the team also added Marcos Ambrose, who came over from JTG Daugherty.

“Richard Petty Motorsports has completed its restructuring process and is now in the process of moving forward. RPM will shift from running four cars to two in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and that is never an easy process for the people involved,” said team owner Richard Petty in a statement.

“Currently, we are concentrating on building two solid programs with AJ Allmendinger behind the wheel of the No. 43 entry and Marcos Ambrose in the No. 9 Ford.”

Kasey Kahne drove the No. 9 entry most of 2010 and will drive for Red Bull Racing in 2011, but has already signed a long-term deal to drive for Hendrick Motorsports in 2012.

Elliott Sadler, who wheeled the team’s No. 19 entry the past couple of seasons, recently announced he will run for the NASCAR Nationwide Series title in 2011 for Kevin Harvick Inc.

Westchester, NY, United States (AHN) – Family and friends of a Pace University student killed last month by police gathered outside the Westchester County courthouse on Sunday to call for justice.

Several hundred people attended the rally that began at Bethel Baptist Church and ended at the courthouse. The family of Danroy “D.J.” Henry, jr., who played wide receiver and defensive back for the Pace football team, is calling on federal prosecutors to take control of the investigation of the student’s death.

Henry died Oct. 17 after being shot by Mount Pleasant police officers who were trying to contain an unruly crowd in a bar in Thornwood. The business management junior allegedly two struck officers with his car.

Police say an officer had knocked on the window of a car parked in the fire lane outside the bar during the brawl. The car, driven by Henry, accelerated and struck the officer, who ended up on the hood of the vehicle.

A second officer attempted to pull the first officer from the hood but was also mowed down by the vehicle. The first officer then fired at the car and another officer shot into the car before the vehicle crashed into a police cruiser.

Two officers were treated for minor injuries after the incident. There were two other passengers in the car with Henry, and only was was hurt with a minor gun shot wound. Henry’s family and fellow students who witnessed the incident have raised doubts about the the way events have been reconstructed by authorities.

The family last week hand-delivered letters to the Justice Department asking the agency to take charge of the investigation. They believe the probe by local authorities has been compromised, citing missing gunpowder evidence on Henry’s car and video cameras on police cars that “for some strange reason weren’t recording” at the time of the shooting.

The very first motorcycle was invented in 1885 by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, two German inventors. The first motorcycle built in the United States came in 1867 by Howard Roper of Roxbury, Massachusetts. The first motorcycle available for purchase was the Hildebrand and Wolfmuller in 1894. Prior to 1920, the largest manufacturer of motorcycles was an Indian company, producing over 20,000 bikes per year. But in 1920 Harley-Davidson took over the top spot and began selling motorcycles in 67 countries worldwide. The leaders in manufacturing motorcycles today are the Japanese companies of Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha.

As mentioned earlier, motorcycles are popular throughout Europe and are most known as scooters. The world’s largest manufacturer of scooters is an Italian company called The Piaggio Group. Motorcycles, like an ATV, have safety concerns. Motorcycles have a higher rate of fatal accidents than regular automobiles do. Motorcycles are prone to tipping and rolling over, which leads to serious injury and sometimes even death. The main cause of motorcycle accidents, aside from the roll over aspect, is that other automobiles tend to ignore motorcycles and their rights as members of the driving force. To reduce the number of motorcycle accidents in the United States, there are motorcycle safety classes offered by non-profit organizations and state agencies. These courses are designed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. These courses include a basic rider course, an intermediate rider course and an advanced rider course.

There are four types of off-road motorcycles in production today. They are the motocross, supermotos, trials motorcycles and track racing machines. Other motocross bicycles are known as ‘dirt bikes.’ ‘Dirt bikes’ are used to ride through the woods in muddy conditions so the tires have more traction. Most states within the United States require motorcycle drivers to pass not only written tests but also driving tests as well. Most states do accept a rider passing one of the courses offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in lieu of a written test and another test driving the vehicle. Aside from the scooter, other types of motorcycles are the moped, the vespa, motorized tricycles and sidecar motorcycles. Motorcycles are known for good fuel efficiency but have been criticized for the amount of pollution they send into the air. For every mile driven a motorcycle produces 10 to 20 times more pollution than a new car.

Concord, NC, United States (AHN) – Travis Pastrana is putting aside his stunt-defying television shows and motocross-winning ways to jump into the world of NASCAR in 2011.

The star of MTV’s “Nitro Circus” and winner of countless jumping records on both motorcycles and automobiles, Pastrana is teaming with Gary and Blake Bechtel and Michael Waltrip Racing to form Pastrana-Waltrip Racing and field cars in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2011.

“I’ve been following NASCAR closely for years as a fan of the sport with competing in the sport a life-long dream,” Pastrana said. “I decided it was time to try and turn that dream into reality and with the help of the Bechtel family, Michael Waltrip Racing and Wasserman Media Group I’m now one step closer.”

Pastrana-Waltrip Racing will focus exposing the action sports world’s fans to NASCAR.

The Initial plans are for Pastrana to run seven NASCAR Nationwide races in 2011 and 20 races in 2012 in Toyotas that comes out of the Michael Waltrip Racing shop in Cornelius, N.C.

“Travis has built an enormous and unique following all over the world,” said Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 champion. “As a race team owner, we are always looking for ways to deliver to our partners and engage our fans better.
